Simply - no.

It is a mothers responsibility to insure her daughter is healthy and educated on how to care for her own body, if your daughter is educated then she can make an educated choice, I can assure you if she understood her body and knew her options then she would not want to use tampons, and if you knew these things there is no way you would want her to use tampons either.

If she wants to use internal options then consider getting her softcups or a menstrual cup, they are a lot healthier and more hygienic than tampons.
Menstrual cups can be worn for up to 12 hours safely and without leaking as they hold far more blood so better suited for heavy periods and for wearing throughout her school day as she would not have to worry about changing.
Menstrual cups can be worn for sports, worn at night and even worn before her period is due to avoid mess on her underwear while still getting used to having her period, they are also environmentally friendly as such will reduce your household waste.
Menstrual cups are also cheaper for you and with a money back guarantee so if she does not like using them you can get your money back.

I'd recommend a Divacup as these have a longer guarantee period, they are medical grade silicone, they can be boiled to sterilize if she wants, and bell-shaped cups are preferred over softcups as softcups are not suited to everyone's bodies.
There are a few different brands with variations between them.

Divacup – Silicone bell-shaped reusable menstrual cup.

Her age is a major factor in that tampons are a greater risk to young women and girls because their bodies do not have the same antibodies as adult women do to deal with vaginal infections and TSS brought about from tampon use.
Young women and girls are also still developing sexually so the mucosa of their vaginal walls are thinner and more delicate and so more prone to irritation and vaginal splitting from tampon use.
As she is young she also may not be able to be responsible enough to change every 4 hours as is necessary and not wear at times such as when she is asleep or not heavy enough to use a tampon.

The hymen breaking may be an issue for you and for her, but if it is not an issue for her and as long as she is aware of her body then she may very well be ready for internal menstrual options such as tampons, sponges, softcup and menstrual cups, although it may prove to be painful to break or stretch her hymen if hers is present and in tact.

If she is wearing commercial pads then you may want to try introducing her to more comfortable options like organic pads, cloth pads, homemade pads, belted pads, or padded panties, she'd probably appreciate pads that feel cleaner and more comfortable. She'd probably feel better with her peers if she had pads with some street cred like leopard print pads, or pads with some other design and they may make her heavier periods easier if she can learn to better manage them in this way.

Tampons are bad for a girl's/woman's vaginal health for a number of reasons;

-The vaginal is self-cleaning, flushing out excess bacteria and dirt via vaginal discharge, but tampons plug-up the vagina preventing the vaginas natural self-cleaning functions thus preventing the vagina from defending itself against infection.

-Tampons do not just absorb menstrual blood but also discharge, as such they dry out the mucosa of the vaginal walls that lead to irritation and vaginal splitting where bacteria can enter into the splits, these splits also make it easier for Toxic Shock Syndrome to take effect by providing a more direct route for toxins produced by bacteria to enter the blood stream.

-Tampons leave fibres within the vagina where bacteria multiplying within the warm, moist, blood-filled material of the tampon can carry on causing problems within the vagina.

-Tampons expand within the vagina, this can add to bloating making the wearer feel more uncomfortable and adding to menstrual cramping. Lengthways expanding tampons such as Tampax can also expand into the cervix adding to discomfort thus adding to menstrual cramping as well as causing harm to the cervix that can cause more serious problems.

-Commercial tampons contain synthetic materials that increase absorption increasing risk of vaginal splitting, bacterial growth that leads to vaginal infection and TSS, as well as increasing irritation of the mucosa of the vaginal walls.

-Commercial tampons are chemically treated and bleached; these chemicals could pose serious health risk to women using tampons, the immediate concern being that these chemicals can affect the vaginal pH, which in turn affect normal vaginal flora that can lead to infection and TSS.

-Tampons negative affect on vaginal health in turn affects a woman's menstrual health; tampons are shown to result in more painful periods as well as longer and heavier menstruation.

I would also suggest doing something about her heavy periods, although it is perfectly normal in teenage years due to hormonal imbalance it can still make it difficult, speaking from personal experience.
You may want to consider getting her evening primrose oil or black cohosh to help regulate her hormones and reduce the bleeding, kelp tablets can help as well, her diet is also very important – make sure she has enough iron, high protein foods, green leafy vegetables, root vegetables and wholegrain foods.
Due to the affect

Please do not put her on the pill as some people have suggested, hormonal birth control is a very extreme form of birth control, not suitable or required for dealing with menstrual problems but unfortunately often prescribed by doctors as a quick-fix.
Hormonal birth control will simply suppress her menstrual cycle; this is not a positive for someone her age as this is just the time when she needs to learn about her menstrual cycle.
It also means if there is a real problem it will be harder to detect when she is older and possibly make the problem worse when she comes off hormonal birth control.

Early period?

Of course, why not? Surely you know they aren't going to break her hymen, right? If you want some help in explaining how they go in, go here:

http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/tampon....

Let her read it and then if she has questions she can ask you.

My mother was of the pad and belt days. Horrible. She believed that tampons would break your hymen. Finally, my pediatrician pretty much told her she was out of her mind when I was 15. Imagine having to use a belt and those pads that were like SURF BOARDS for 5 years!! I put that first tampon in and it was fabulous!

i've gotten my period twice this month but its black.?

well im no woman, but i think you should.

your not just letting her bleed everywhere are you?

OMG is this true for all the "virgin's"?

Sure, just make sure you stress to her the importance of washing her hands before inserting them and the importance of taking them out on time. You know just the general guidance they recommend on the box.

how have breast implants distorted the popular female body image?

Don't they have helplines on the sides of the packets? Try calling that.

What could the reason for painful breasts only on both of the sid es of them?

Of course. 13 years old is not unusal for menstrating. Why would you not help her understand she is growing up?

Is this my period?

yes as long as she is comfortable with them

although, most girls usually cant use them until they have lost their virginity , but everyone is different

Why do I feel sleepy, extremely sleepy during the day? Im a healthy 20yr old.?

I think you should only introduce her to tampons if you absolutely have too. For example if she joins the swim team then you would have to introduce her to tampons.

It hurt when I peed.?

If she feels ready. My 16 yr old won't try, but her 16 yr old cousin has been using tampons pretty much since day one. it's up to the girl.

curisosity killed the cat.?

yes i dont see why not.

Spondylolysis?

I have been using them since I was 14 without problems.

Cancerous and noncancerous lumps in breasts?

If it helps. Isn't that what tampons were invented for? Seems daft to deny her something useful. It can't do her any harm.

Need A Answer Please, Thanks?

yes, just make sure she changes them often to avoid toxic shock syndrome...

What should I use for birth control? I'm thinking about IUD.?

Sure, why not?

a question about bald men?

don't see why not, or how about giving her the option of trying out both pads and tampons to see whats right for her.

Can being with other girls on their period make you have yours agian?

Give her d choice of tampons r panty liners, she'll make up her own mind den

is it weird at only 13?(GIRLS ONLY!)?

yes... would u rather someone else do it? if she has very heavy periods, it might be good for her to use a super tampon and a extra long pad... but it's up to u... does she want to use them?

Period problems - help.?

Yes let her use them she just may have to use the heavier style tampons and I know that with all the different brands she will just need to experiment to see which ones work better for her and she may also have to use pantyliners until she gets used to how fast she may go thru a tampon with a heavier period and then after a few times she will be able to judge the time to change it but i think a tampon would be better than a pad which keeps the blood in close contact with the skin may make a bigger mess and at the same time has a greater ability to produce a foul odor then the tampon. So i would say yes let her and good luck to you both

Gardasil and Periods?

yeah

IF you happen to do it at that age what are the effects??

yea because i go through the same thing and i'm 11 im 5'5 and VERY tall for my age so yea u shuld

i stopped smoking on 1st jan i feel great but cant stop eating please help?

What a bunch of idiots tried to answer this question!! Ignore them!
She can try tampons, sure. She's plenty old enough to read the instructions and warnings herself, I think the package insert even has a question & answer section. I think Tampax still makes a Junior size. Let her start with those and give her some KY Jelly.

Someone Help Please!?

No! Not only is there the risk of TSS but research also shows that using tampons can damage cervical cells. I would read 'Fertility, Cycles and Nurtition' by Marilyn Shannon, there are many ways that you can reduce the severity of your daughters periods that involve simple diet changes or supplements. Please also avoid putting her on the pill.

Is breast size genetic? Plz be kind?

For a girl that age, with the physical development you note, personal comfort should be the rule. Allow HER the choice.

Girls only!?

Yes...I think you should interduce them to her...Like some one else's answer..Let her read the info that comes with a box of tampon's...If she feels the need to ask questions about it..Let her ask and be honest with her..But I think it should be up to her weather or not she wants to wear them..I my self as a woman...I use either or...As long as I've got something on...

I have been told you can take birth control pills to stop your monthly..?

yes she can and you should show her how i mean show her how to put it in side her vagina make her do the necessery things not to get tss (toxic shock syndrome)

good luck!!!

What is the best doctor for a woman?

...this is a joke right?

I'm interested in the way women Greeks in BC kept monthly menstrual cycles clean? Or if not clean,?

If her periods are heavy you might want to think about putting her on the contraceptive pill. i went on the pill when i was 13 and it really eased the problems i was having. I think that you should talk to her and ask her what she would like to do about the tampons situation.

For those of you with your tubes tied?

Its not advisable to use tampons if periods are heavy,as they do stop the flow to a certain degree, which, in turn, may cause some discomfort.Care should be taken whilst using Tampons regarding Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Getting contraception when not UK resident?

Most of the people who have answered seem to be more than a little ignorant of exactly why no woman, particularly not a girl, should use tampons. If your daughter is mature then give her the means to learn about her body and introduce her to safer menstrual options – BEING MATURE DOES NOT MEAN USING TAMPONS! Tampons are not at all safe or hygienic, heavy periods or not – if she has heavy periods listen to JJ above me, do something about it and if she wants to use something other than pads then get her a menstrual cup! Really hun, having her use tampons is not a good idea at all.

My gf ejaculates a lot of liquid during orgasm..?

I would say yes yes yes, i had a terrible battle with my mum as she didnt want me to use them and to be honest i used them anyway. It would be better if she had your support and you can explain the importance of using the right flow and changing them regularly, she will also be able to ask you questions. My mum ended up using them herself i have to add! Congrats, your little girl is growing up!
P.s ignore the scare police!
