I am exactly the same. I met my present husband lone 9 years ago and told him I was rough and he used to just appear at my side when I be say within the kitchen and make me step. I jump at little things adjectives the time.

What could this be?

It may be PTSD - post traumatic stress disorder which can be caused by traumatic events such as rough up, rape, car accident, etc. Vets (of war) suffer from this from gunshots etc and I suffer from it as well. It is an increased startle response.
