I have a lump (knot) on my sternum, should I be concerned?

I a short time ago found a twist on my sternum between my breasts, but closer to the right one. It wasn't sore until I found it, and later I begin to push on it at times, and very soon it is sore. Should I be concerned, and what could be the problem?
