Why would my period be lasting 12+ days?

Hello. I am a short time ago starting to wonder, as I commonly own my extent over inside 2 or 3 days.
This month it have in a minute last 12 days, and doesn't look to be stopping. It isn't that stocky, really - but still 'red', and I am so, so tired. I've be going to bed at 7:30 most night.
I am on the pill, and enjoy be for 5 years or so.
I'm 23, so shouldn't be menopause. And unless I am 4 months pregnant lacking knowing, it can't be anything to do near pregnancy!
If it stops, is it ok? I maintain expecting it to stop so haven't made a doctors appointment, but if it does stop, should I still see a doctor, or is this conventional?
I haven't have a pap smear for 2 years - only just get the reminder memo contained by the messages today - so I will be seeing a doctor soon, I guess.
I of late don't know why my time have last so long, and it is complex to find any information on it, so if anyone can support it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

12 days is excessive, and unusual, you should see a doctor right away.
