Earrings problem?

I had my ears pierced years ago and have no problems. However, recently whenever I wear earrings, my right ear really hurts. The strain begins from the ear and spreads to the right side of my skipper. It only fade away after I've removed the earring from that ear. There are no signs of infection. Anyone know why this could be happening?
