If it is only for a smear, then i would and postpone it, purely because when i hold had mine, the nurse other told me you should really be mid cycle if possible, i am sure if you phone up them they will tell you.Smears are discomfited more than anything, there can be a slight spasm but nothing to verbs about.
i have this problem last month, u cant hold a smear up to a wk before, during or a week after your time.

i would wait until the following week as it could find messy which you dont want lol but i dont think it would issue as long as youre clean because i bled after i have my smear done. it hurts if youre not relaxed and i wasnt

Smears are no more than uncomfortable. They are best done when you are not bleeding. (Why are you attending a GUM clinic a moment ago for a smear?)

you cant cart a smear test if you own your period as the blood can interfere near the samples they hold. You would have to lurk until it is finished.i still have to when i was on my time of year,they do it weather your on or not
