It does help a bit, but it's not a cure. I had both cystic and regular acne all my teen years and when I started bc my regular acne went away and my cystic acne diminished a little. I still get them though so I have a prescription cream for that. You should talk to you doctor about it though, acne is not a good enough reason to start bc pills. It depends on your body. It isn't a miracle cure, but it is helpful. If you're a teenager, then you'll never be totally safe from acne; if you're older, it may help clear up that last little bit.
