I am 53+. I own experienced very little hot flashes. But I take outside and work with my husband plus we hold a big yard which I garden contained by. Hot flashes can last for years. I enjoy heard that menopause last 10yrs going into it, lasts 10 yrs for menopause and later lasts10 yrs going out!
She has to procure off HRT. Its not dutiful for her. My mother-in-law stayed on it till she was contained by her 70's. Finally I made the suggestion that she didn't need them. She quit taking them. She get confused, went into the hospital and passed.

They can cause numerous side effects, breast cancer, heart attacks, stroke, dementia.
If you can find her to just stroll to get some exercise she will surface much better.
Unfortunately hot flashes are different for every woman. My mom had an awful time. She took Bovine uterine bin liner, and swore by it! At least she didn't want to butcher my dad when she took it. Me, when I have one, I run with the flow. Usually I don't enjoy them if I keep my cool, but when I bring back mad something like something, here they come.
I do swear by exercise though and eating a economically balanced feast every day.

Everybody is different some people never go and get hot flashes. Once coming off hormone replacement its resembling going thru menopause all over again. They'll last FOREVER ... but they will appear to 'slack off' a bit after in the order of two years ... but tell your mom that her 'hot flashes' may be 'annoying' but getting a heart attack can KILL YOU. She's extremely BRAVE to just stop her hormones 'cold turkey' but she'll be 'much better contained by the long run' because she did.
