Anyway historically bunkers :
A bunker is a deterrent military fortification. Bunkers are mostly below ground, compared to blockhouses which are mostly above ground. They were used extensively contained by World War I and World War II. During the Cold War, massive bunker complexes were built to house both strategic (command & control) infrastructure as powerfully as government personnel and stores for the event of a nuclear time of war. During that time, bunkers became a part of a set of American culture with ethnic group building backyard fallout shelters, though these were not intended to protect against direct attacks as bunkers as a rule would.

As to crossfire you can be literally under cross fire gist two or more people,unit, armies shoot at each other and you are surrounded by the middle. You can come under crossfire when question by the police, in Congress, as a president or as a civilian. People "shoot" question at you . There are many forms to use cross fire.
