Do hormones make women over 40 find so unexplainably annoyed at everything?

I am going to be 41 in a couple of days, and I feel at times I can not explain why I get hold of to terribly annoyed just about everything especailly when I am a few days before my spell and while I am on my period. Is this average?? Help!!
