Believe it or not men and women are equal when it comes to donating blood.
The Red Cross has a few requirements:

- You must weigh at lowest 110 pounds.
- You may not donate blood while you have the flu, but can donate after person exposed to someone with the flu if you're passion well and own no symptoms.
- You must be at least 17
- Pregnant women cannot donate blood.
Although no problems own been reported, the sanctuary of donating blood during and shortly after pregnancy has not be fully established. There may be medical risks to mother and baby if a blood donation is made while pregnant or shortly after pregnancy.

-Donors may be temporarily deferred from donating due to a low iron (hematocrit) stratum. This requirement is for the safety of the donor. We want to take home sure that, after donation, the donor's iron level will still be inside the normal span for a healthy grown. A deferral for low hematocrit does not mean a donor is anemic. Hematocrit level can fluctuate daily. Eating foods illustrious in iron, such as red meat, shady green vegetables, raisins, Total cereal, etc, or taking a multivitamin with iron may comfort increase iron levels.

- The body replaces the donated blood volume in a few hours. It takes several weeks to replace the donated red cell. Donors can safely grant blood every eight weeks.
