Its recommended to use backup protection for the first week after starting the pill. Once you have ovulated, the pill does not without beating about the bush destroy the egg. So if you ovulated right before taking the pill, u can definately still catch pregnant. Since the egg can only be fertilized for 6-24 hours after it is released, thats why they advise u to use a backup method for the first few days.
