I couldn't find an exact date, but it seem approaching doctors hold be working on strain nouns for childbirth for slightly some time (not to their benefit!) A doctor contained by Hamburg be executed for relieving the dull pain of a woman within childbirth contained by 1521. Then within the 19th century Dr. William Morton introduced ether as a mode of twinge nouns. And finally...

"Dr. John Bonica invented the epidural block and administered it to his own wife while she be surrounded by labor next to their second child contained by the 1930s, but at lowest two full generation of women give birth short benefit of an epidural, while the medical profession sit by next to a sluggishness unmatched surrounded by history. It is time to relegate the so-called “beneficial aspects of pain” to one and the same grave where on earth we own laid practices such as using leeches to bleed a patient" (1.)
