Menopause symptoms - I've had slight hot flushes for about five years ...?

My period stopped completely three years ago - how much longer will I hold the flushes? Also my heart regularly beat really knotty and I grain a mode of lump within my throat but test show I'm glowing. Is this run of the mill? When will I be free of symptoms? (I approved not to use HRT and opt for diet and exercise (and prayer!) to comfort me through).
