Is an Inter-uterine-device uncomfortable to own?

I just read a request for information "What is an IUD?" and i do know of them, but someone commneted "if a woman is tolerant enough to hold one" suggesting that they are uncomfortable or prickly to wear or have inserted.
Are they? Can you surface them when they are in and how exactly is it inserted, does it hurt please?

I have the mirena. It's a 5 year intra uterine contraceptive. I'm not going to fib, it hurt a lot and I be cramping for the first week or so. Now I can't even feel it. It doesn't affect me. I'm glad I don't hold to remember to take a day after day pill, to put in/out a ring, go within every 3 months for a shot, put on/take off a patch. All I hold to remember is May 22, 2012 (when to take it out).
the website nominated below shows all sorts of adjectives info, charts, and pictures.

Can a high restlessness disrupt your menstrual cycle?

IUDs are small, flexible plastic devices that are inserted into the uterus. They are not painful but except inserted properly, bleeding and pain will go off. There are two types of IUD available in the US, one which releases progestin, is influential for 5 years. The other one releases copper is effective for 10 years.

The IUD have a plastic ring attached so that a woman can check to make sure the device is still surrounded by check. It is one of the safest method of preventing menstruation. Most of the women I know have IUD for 5 to 8 years and no impair was done to their uterus. You simply have to progress to your OB regularly though.
