Some say-so you bleed. I personally didn't. The bleeding is the do of a torn hymen which is a membrane that is between the vagina and the cervix. But in that is so many other things that can effect the hymen to tear such as sports or the use of tampons. So not everyone bleeds, but it shouldn't be a sizeable amount.

During - You don't know you have bled. You purely leave a spot on the bed. Mine be about six inches in diameter. The blood is not everywhere. You don't see the blood spot until afterward when you get up.

After: you spot for a few days. Mine last five days.

The hymen is a emaciated, stretchable membrane that stretches easily to accommodate a penis during sex when a woman is satisfactorily aroused, lubricated, and the male partner is soft. The majority of women will not have twinge or bleeding if these conditions are met.

Those who do skipped one of the steps, or has an underlying medical condition (an especially thick/larger coverage hymen, untreated infection, etc) that's cause the pain and bleeding, which is why women are advise to see a gynecologist before their first sexual encounter and regularly thereafter.
