Has anyone else suffered impossible side effects from birth control?

I had a stoke closing year when I was twenty from using birth control. I hold low blood pressure, low cholesterol and I don't smoke. What do you use now? I hold endometriosis and my cramps are horrendous is their an alternative with no hormones or side effects?
