How to receive a slim and strong body?

Am asking for a friend's behalf.
She has a bleak spine, bad ankle and desperate knees. There is no way she can indulge in strenuous exercises. She also suffers from hose down phobia and thus does not know how to swim. Therefore, there is no agency I can enourage her to take a dip within the pool with me.
So how can she attain a slim and fit body? She is very depressed more or less her current condition... cos I believed she has gain 30 pounds due to her condition. She might have be eating slightly more since she is depressed bout her bulk and looks. She is in her untimely 30s.

How can I help as a friend?

mild to moderate weight lifting will support her tone and increase her metabolism with out straining her spine ankles or knees
