When patients come into the pharmacy, I commonly steer them away from products like Midol. Midol contains caffeine, an ingredient that help increase energy temporarily, but can make happen rebound bloating, headache, and fatigue.

If you are prone to cramps each month, try using Aleve (naproxen) since and during your period. Take this product beside food. Aleve tends to work better than other over-the-counter products within relieving menstrual cramps and headaches. Try to avoid significant amounts of caffeine (found in soda, coffee, chocolate, etc.) and foods high surrounded by salt (causes bloating).

Fatigue is for a moment bit harder to treat and may be related to temporary anemia, a condition that can result from a loss of blood. Try taking a multivitamin during the month that contains iron.

Summary:
1. Headaches / cramps / backache: Aleve, avoid caffeine
2. Bloating: Avoid salty foods, try drinking a banana (high in potassium)
3. Fatigue: Take a multivitamin beside iron
4. NO MORE MIDOL!!

Hope this helps!
