What is the 'lemon' sign and the 'banana' sign on an ultrasound.?
I'm curious to know what doctors find in an ultrasound that would indicate spina bifida. I know it's something to do with a spinal column that doesn't close adjectives the way. Does it every appear on the ultrasound similar to there is a hole surrounded by the meninges or fluid surrounding the brain?

Ultrasound in the second trimester can detect spina bifida and other neural tube defect by looking at a cross-section view of the fetal manager and visualizing the lateral ventricles, which are part of a set of the fluid collecting system in the brain: the "lemon sign" denotes the scalloping (overlapping) frontal bones, which makes the cross wedge appear lemon shaped rather than oval and is predictive of spina bifida. The "banana sign" refers to the inexplicably shaped midbrain and an elongated cerebellum in the Arnold-Chiari malformation. Among fetuses near neural tube defects, the "lemon sign" can be detected contained by 80% and the "banana sign" in 93% of cases.
