I don't know why the pain is other worse at night, but it sure is. Have you tried sleeping next to a pillow between your legs? I had both knees replaced and until that time the surgery, that was the just relief I could bring back, and I still sleep that way. That is a tremendous nouns once you can get used to the pillow human being there.God Bless.
