Why do girls break out right before getting their period? Is there a way to avoid this?

Answers:    Some young women notice worsening of their acne in response to the hormonal changes of their menstrual cycle. Daily use (not just before your period) of a prescription or over-the-counter acne medication like benzoyl peroxide will help, as will the oral contraceptive pill, which works by providing prescribed levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone for three weeks of each menstrual cycle. Although only one brand of birth control pills has been formally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for treatment of acne, it is likely that any birth control method containing estrogen will be effective as well.
So, if you also need a reliable birth control method, you might discuss birth control pills with your doctor.
