What should I expect at my first Gyno- appointment?

I'm almost 18, and I have my first appointment at the end of the month. I am a short time ago wondering what to expect. I think I will most likely be contained by the middle of my period the date of the appointment, can I still go while on my time; will he have to post-pone anything? Huhhh... I'm kinda nervous :S

Answers:    You may be worried more or less your first pelvic exam. It's very normal to lose sleep about something when you don't know what to expect. Hopefully after reading this, you will be reassured that it is simple, isn't tender and the actual pelvic exam takes only roughly 5 minutes. It is also normal to feel dismayed or uneasy about your first exam, I still feel ashamed with mine and I've had may plentiful pelvic examinations over the past 10 years due to female related problems I'm experiencing.

However, if you know what to expect, it may minister to you relax. I'm sure your gyno understands how you feel and will be sensitive and peaceable, and answer any questions you may have.

There are other esteemed reasons to have a pelvic exam. These may include:

- Unexplained torment in your lower belly or around the pelvic area, where on earth your vagina is;
- Vaginal discharge or wetness on your underwear that causes itching, burning or smells bad;
- No menstrual period by age 15 or 16;
- Vaginal bleeding that lasts more than 10 days;
- Missed periods; especially if you are have sex;
- Menstrual cramps so bad that you miss school or work.

During your first check up your gyno will ask you question about:

- Your general robustness, allergies and medications you are taking;
- Your menstrual period, such as how prehistoric you were when you first got it, how long it last, how often it comes, how much you bleed , the first day that your final period started, if you have cramps; and at what age your breasts started to develop.
- Whether you enjoy ever had sex or have be sexually abused.
- If you have vaginal itchiness or an unusual discharge or odor from your vagina.

If you find it comforting a friend or if you want your Mum can go near you for support, bear in mind that they don't hold to be present in the room when you are having the pelvic nouns done. After you have given your medical history, been weigh and had your blood pressure checked, you will be asked to put on a gown. You will need to remove your clothes including your underwear and bra. A breast exam is normally done as a routine part of this check-up.

Your gyno will explain the steps to the exam and ask you to lie down on the exam table. You will be given a sheet to put over your stomach and legs. You will consequently be asked to move down to the end of the table and place your feet within stirrups (these are holders for your feet). With your knees bent, you will be asked to let your knees fall to respectively side allowing your legs to spread apart. This is usually the part when most women feel feeling shame. This feeling is normal too. Just remember that although this is your first exam, this is routine for your gyno and their single concern is for your health.

There are 3 parts to this exam. Sometimes not all parts of the pelvic exam are crucial. Ask your gyno which part or parts will be done for your examination.

Your gyno will first look at the nouns outside of your vagina, (clitoris, labia, vaginal opening, and rectum).

Now some information about the papsmear. The speculum is an instrument made of metal or plastic. Your gyno will place the speculum into your vagina. After it is inserted, it will be benignly opened so that your gyno can see your vagina and your cervix (the opening to your uterus).

After checking your vagina and cervix, your gyno may bring a thin plastic stick and a special tiny brush or a small "broom" and gently wipe away some of the cell from your cervix. This is a pap smear, which detects early changes of the cervix beforehand they become cancer. Most girls have normal pap smears.

If you are have vaginal discharge, your gyno will take another sample to check for a possible yeast infection and other cause of discharge. If you are having sex, your gyno will take another indication from the cervix to check for sexually transmitted diseases. When all of these samples hold been taken, your doctor will close the speculum and gently pinch it out.

When the exam is over, your gyno will answer any questions you have and let somebody know you when to make your next appointment. He/she will also chitchat to you about any medications you may obligation and tell you when and how you will get the results of the exam.

I hope this information help you out. Best of luck and remember to try to relax. If at any time during your examination, you feel discomfited or anything causes pain, you own the right to stop your gyno and let him/her know.

Good luck. :).
I would try and change the appointment for after your term.
You go in they filch your blood pressure and weight ask you a few questions in the region of how your periods have be and if you have any concerns. They give you a robe and they make tracks to let you put it on you take everything sour except maybe your socks. they come back ask you to scoot down and put your foot in the slings and that's when they do the pap its over in 2 second just lay down and relax for most girls it doesn't hurt for me I didn't even feel it. afterwards they will put their fingers inside you to feel your ovaries. then they usually will do a breast exam they lately have you lift your arm over your skipper and they do a circle around each breast to feel for lumps. after they leave and let you procure dressed and thats about it. I hope i didn't leave anything out . i would post-pone your appointment until done next to your period some dr. wont even do the exam unless your off it. Your 1st appt can be a moment or two awkward. they examine your breasts for lumps and put the speculum in your vagina and make sure everything looks fine they also push on your stomach to make sure you dont have any backache. dont be nervous. its not anyones favorite appt but its an important one..

If you are on your period he will freshly reschedule, but he will still more than likely talk to you while you are their. Tell his nurse and she will figure out :] if you are going for an internal, you will have to postpone the appointment, they cant do it while you have your period..
re schedule and tell them why adjectives girls get it and tons reschedule because of that
