My question is when does it start protecting? I inserted it today and my extent started yesterday. I want to know for how long I should be using a back-up birthcontrol method. Answers:    If you insert the first day of your period, you don't call for back-up birth control. If you insert on the fifth day of your period, you requirement back-up for seven days. You're somewhere between those two. To be on the safe side, I would use back-up for seven days, but realistically you're probably fine..
