Has anyone hear of the depo provera shot?

I heard about it the first time today, and some one said that it shuts down your ovaries so you can't procure periods anymore. Is this a good shot to grasp as an 18 year old? I don't know if I should get it or not. Has anyone else get it?

Answers:    I don't like it. I tried it and it can stop some people's periods but not adjectives. It didn't mine. It can make you gain weight also. Just my personal experience I wouldn't use it, but do your research and sermon to your Dr. .
I was on it for years and the not having period part is great, however the 80lbs I gained on it )and no, I be not eating more it just happens) and the 120 my niece gain are simply not worth it. The doctors will tell you it is not the depo and that you must be eating more but it really is of late the depo. For instance a friend of mine was so sick and couldn't hold any food down due to an injury she went from a size 12 to a 2 contained by a matter of 3 months. She went on depo and while still not holding any food down gain 50lbs and it wasn't rebound weight from in the past he had been a size 2 for over a year. EVERYONE I know who go on it gained mass amounts of weight. And it also kill your sex drive :( I found this information on the website, hope it's helpful:

Other back-up studies claim that the bone loss may be reversible in younger women while some studies contradict this by confirming that the bone loss is severe. Osteoporosis and the loss of bone density typically effect women later in duration making them susceptible to fractures throughout the skeletal system.

Other Depo-Provera side effects include excessive weight gain, hair loss, headache, muscle stiffness, and severe joint pain. The long-term effects on bone density and women's bodies are still unknown.

Yes i have been using the depo provera shot for nearly two decades. I love the shot so much. The solidity gain has not been a problem for me. I love that i don't own no periods. So you really need to gossip to your doctor and see if this is right for you. It's a form of birth control. I wouldn't reccomend it, because everyone I know that has gotten it, has gain 30-60+ pounds, and they were never able to lose it, even after they stopped the shot.
