Can birth control mess up your menstrual cycle?

I recently switched to a different kind of birth control and immediately my period is messed up. i am usually on it for 7 days now i am on it for 3 and the flow is markedly heavy and painful. i cant move and i take very sick. whats the deal

Answers:    your body may basically be getting used to the medication and the symptoms do not often last drastically long. Once your body adjusts to the new smooth of hormones, you will notice a reduction surrounded by symptoms. To reduce nausea, it may help you to get through a small snack with your pill so you do not take it on an abandon stomach.
IF IT DOESNT GET BETTER SEE YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

Birth control pills have some wonderful side effects, besides their primary purpose of preventing pregnancy. Some of these positives include a reduction contained by cramping with your periods and shorter number of days of bleeding. It may also advance the regularity of periods, reduce symptoms of PMS (Pre-Menstrual Syndrome), and give a hand prevent diseases of the breast and fallopian tubes, and cancer of the ovaries and the lining of the uterus
.
Your cycle is just getting accustomed to the change with the birth control. I didn't enjoy a problem with mine, so check with your doctor since you're getting sick and can't even move.

I enjoy horrible periods (where I would miss about a week of arts school!) and my gyno stopped them all together with the pill, so ask them around that too since yours seem extremely horrible. Ask for some pain medication as okay..
Welcome to being a woman. I used 3 different brands and whenever I switched brands, I'd get really screwed up period. This one may be stronger than your other one. You'll just have to stick it out another month and see if it get any better. That's really all you can do.

PS- which one are you on? Mine were the worst when I used Yaz and regular Ortho Tri Cyclen. They be shorter and lighter when I was on OTC-lo..
It sucks but ride it out for another month or two and your body will regulate. Different birth controls have different hormones and different level of hormones in them so your body has abundantly of work to do learning how to function with them. Your period should even out to something more bearable but if they don't make sure to try something else! Yes it can. When I was on the pill I notice a big change. I went from lantern frothy three days grace kind of period to bulky hateful mean seven hours of daylight period. I got heavier and cramped galore! I stopped taking it raison d`??tre I felt immobile. I hear that's that wrong thing to do, to stay on it and tolerate the hormones adjust to your body and you will go back to middle-of-the-road or semi normal period..
YEAH! roughly most Birth Controll pills are hormeones... and by rasing one or the other hormeone in your body it fools your body into thinking different things... like some create your body think you already pregnent, so no need for egg to be released... but thos as a rule make people a bit cranky.. some merely keep other hormeones down... also may affect your mood!

sorry i dont menation any names of the pills or hormeones. i did a project on this WAY backbone at school and i do not really remember details... but if you google things like Oestrogen, FSH, LH and progesterone you should get hold of a clearer answer.

Hope this gelps!.
Uh, yeah. You are messing with your hormones so your menstrual cycle will definitely transmute. This could get better or worse over time. Your best bet is to call your doctor. You could ride it out and continue for your next period to see how ably you adjust. At this point, all your OB/GYN can do is change your pills again, and that will motive the same problems. I've switched my BC pill 3 times this year because I found out that I have ovarian cysts. My OB/GYN say that it takes a three month cycle to regulate. If by the third month you're still dealing with this, give the name the DR. Otherwise, just wait it out. I'm sure you'll be in motion back to normal. It happen to me too..
birth control does mess with your period.topical birth controls cause you to have similar to, 4 periods a year or something like that! It messes near your body's natural flow of doing things so, now you of late need to make a finding if you wanna deal with it or not. Different kind of birth control can give you diff. kinds of period. When I was on Yasmin, I had short, severely light periods, and when I switched to the NuvaRing, they be longer and heavier, it's normal, I wouldn't worry.
birth control usually regulates your cycle.

perchance its just adjusting your cycle.
