Birth Control Pills?

I've been on birth control (low dose: Yasmin 28) for 6 months. I go on the pill because I had really cumbersome, painful period. Well, 6 months later, and my period are slightly less tender, but still heavy, which is a highest inconvenience. I hate getting my interval! Is there anything else I can do in the region of this? Also, could having a massively heavy length, even on birth control, be a sign of an underlying problem?
