Do hernia's other poke so far out that you can see a bulge?

Going to the Dr. monday...I have a small lump contained by my lower abdoman.When I shower I can feel it better but if I slightly push on it it seem to go final in.I cant see a bulge from of late looking,I can only get the impression it.I have slight discomfort within that area,its a dull throbbing feeling.My best guess would be hernia,but I thought they show a bulge that you can see from purely looking...Im scared to reflect its anything else!Can you help me get the drift what this could be until I get to my Dr?Thanks!
