My guess was, the fetus own an unusual condition and the family agreed on departing the fetus there for medical research. Why that long? Maybe the fetus didnt really die and they are keeping the newborn until he's old adequate to be discharged? who knows simply the hospital, the doctor, and the fetus's parents can answer u as accurately as possible.

If the fetus is greater than 20 weeks gestation, the loved ones has to arrange for burial or cremation, and have to name the little one. If it's born before 20 weeks, the own flesh and blood has the right to enjoy a funeral if they want, or they can leave the remains to for the hospital to dispose of.
