I think it depends on which IUD you are conversation about. There is the non-hormonal, copper IUD (ParaGuard), and the hormonal, plastic IUC (Mirena).

I have Mirena. I as a rule have problems with hormonal birth control, but not this one. It is the lowest hormone level of any hormonal birth control on the market, and the hormones usually stay in the uterus. The solitary side effects I have had is not have a period anymore. Nothing bad. I in truth love it.
