I have had a previous impulsive miscarriage (4 weeks) and was not given the rhogam shot, I am RH negative and single found out at around 26 weeks gestation. I recieved the shot a week later, at 27 weeks. I am now nearly 37 weeks and I am unnerved my baby will not make it because I own already been sensitized.

Is it possible that I have be sensitized? What do I do? I can't even sleep at night from worry over this. My pregnancy have been fine thus far, I had an ultrasound at 36 weeks and my placenta looked fine.

I know so little on the subject and please, if you own any info offer it!

You should have be given the Rhogam shot at the time of your miscarriage. You could already be sensitized by your first pregnancy. The Rhogam you received for this pregnancy would protect your third fetus, if you get pregnant again, PROVIDED that you did not already get sensitized during your first pregnancy.

If the father of your miscarried child is glum, then you have no worries around this pregnancy.

The indirect Coombs test is used to screen blood from pregnant women for IgG antibodies that may miss through the placenta and cause hemolytic disease of the newborn. You should get this interview, because in Caucasian populations about 13% of Rhesus glum mothers are sensitized by their first pregnancy with a rhesus positive baby. If the mother is sensitized, the newborn has 1 chance surrounded by 20 of serious consequences, including death.

Management-Antenatal

-Ultrasound - to detect and monitor hydrops fetalis
-Quantitative analysis of maternal anti-RhD antibodies - an increasing plane is a sign of fetal Rh disease
-Intrauterine blood transfusion
-Intraperitoneal transfusion - blood transfused into fetal abdomen
-Intravascular transfusion - blood transfused into fetal umbilical vein - This is more modern and more influential than intraperitoneal transfusion. A sample of fetal blood can be taken from the umbilical vein prior to the transfusion.
-Early abdication (usually after about 36 wks gestation)
