I'm 25 years old and lately been getting my period every 2 weeks. What does this mean?

Answers:    Periods that are too frequent (more often than every 28 days also called "metrorrhagia") can be related to several predisposing factors:

If the periods are otherwise normal, then a short "luteal phase" or insufficient ovarian production of progesterone may be responsible. If the periods are inconsistent, then failure to ovulate and the resulting anovulatory bleeding may be responsible. If the periods are actually normal and once a month, but there are episodes of bleeding in between the periods, then mechanical factors such as fibroids or polyps may be responsible. Women with hyperthyroidism are classically described as experiencing frequent, heavy periods. They, in reality, rarely show that pattern, but we usually screen these patients for thyroid disease anyway.

Early stages of pregnancy might be a possible cause as well, but it could happen if you change your eating habits, are stressed, have a lot on your mind, etc. Our emotions and hormones collide a lot.

I've experienced frequent periods too in the past that was caused by ovarian cysts.

There could be other causes for the frequent periods you are experiencing and I would recommend you see your doctor/gyno for further evaluation to see what they think could be causing this.

Good luck :)

First- you havent metioned if you are on birth control or not- or if you just started. A changed peorid can be for so many reasons its crazy. Stress, extream exerise, major lifestly change ect can effect it. If this has been going on for awhile then contact your OBGYN. Im 25 too... and as we all know... nothing is more frusterating then when you seem out of wack. Do you have anyother symptoms? Is it the first time its happend? If you can clarify that it would help! Best of luck to you--- and hang in there! I'm also 25 and get my period-like clockwork- every other week. I went to my dr. and they think I have a hormonal imbalance. I'm currently waiting on the results. .
This could mean a numb.er of things and a visit to the gyn. is a must. Could be anything from thyroid problems, fibroids, hormones, but it does need to be checked out. Stress will do that. Sometimes diet, also. Fibroids can also make periods come sooner. Get with your GYN ASAP. The more you bleed the worse you'll feel..
