Methadone and pregnancy?
NJ have proposed a law that would filch away a woman's right to slowly STOP taking this powerful medication while pregnant. While stopping methadone is not always best for women near severe heroin addiction, it is the best course for many other pregnant women on methadone who option to keep their babies from individual born addicted or suffering methadone caused complications. It seem the state is trying to protect severe addicts from individual forced off methadone, but if this is passed it will be determined that the rest of the women on methadone who become pregnant will HAVE to have addicted children! NJ is waiting to hear from society on this issue... does anyone have any comments give or take a few this? Would anyone like to share or of late state their outrage? I'm trying to fight this.
Answers: I would point out to these folks, who are trying to pass by this law the potentially serious neonatal subtraction syndrome, which occurs contained by many babies born to mothers using methadone.
The prospect of withdrawal effects is one and only weakly related to the maternal methadone dose but is probably related to the speed next to which concentrations decrease surrounded by the baby. Even when clear renunciation symptoms were no longer adjectives, both staff and parents found these babies demanding, sometimes for several months.
