Battered wife syndrome isn't really a good word for it. Instead, it should be call "husbands who beat their loving wives syndrome."

Basically, it is a condition where the female partner of the relationship does not head off the relationship even though her partner is physically or emotionally harming her/putting her at risk.

It is adjectives for many MANY relations to blame the woman for the abuse. It is also adjectives for people to afford the woman major guilt trips for not leaving--as in, "Hello! He's leaving you next to bruises on your face! Leave him!" That is a adjectives reaction from relatives outside the cycle of abuse. There is a full host of reasons why women don't be off, and each differs woman to woman. Sometimes it is difficult to depart from because of financial reasons. Some women are financially dependent on their husband's income. Sometimes they stay for the children. Sometimes they are simply in love near their partner--after all, walking away from a romantic relationship is never natural.

So that is battered wife syndrome surrounded by a nutshell. Why do you ask? Are you experiencing abuse? Are you concerned for your capably being and for your safekeeping? If so, do you have a support system, inherited, or another place you can go?
