When should I start taking my birth control for the first time?

I've never taken birth control before but i went to the doctor yesterday and she prescribed me on yaz. (frikin expensive! {side question- any cheaper alternatives that work as well? beside acne and cramps}) I read the packet and it says to start taking it the first day of my period but is it ok to start in a minute? (which is a week and five days after my period started). What will happen? Im scared!! lol.

I would wait til subsequent month!
Wait until the start of your next period. And until after, you do need to practice safe sex.

Yaz is bloody pricey, and is beneath scrutiny by the FDA for high levels of stroke, blood clotting, and death. You might want to check out another brand. If you bring back birth conrtol from Planned Parenthood it will be cheaper (around $10) or free. Your school nurse might also have some.
If you start taking birth control in the first few days of your term it works sooner and doesn't mess up your menstrual cycle. You can start mid cycle but you'll find you spot bleed, might miss a period, and you won't be protected from pregnancy until you start your next pack. It's easier on your body to start taking it when you're on your period because you don't own to adjust your cycle by two weeks.
If you DO start it while you're on your period, make sure you use a condom for the first two weeks to give it a opening to build up in your system and start to work.
