recently had my 2nd child and am considering using mirena. merely wondering for those who are or have used this...do you still have monthly period? and if so are they any lighter, the same, heavier? thanks

Since my Mirena be implanted in August of 2007, I have have one period and it lasted 3 days. That be in October. I have not have one since. Which is nice

Something you should consider (though most doctors don't really discuss it) is the possibility of some moderate to severe hormonal acne. Even though Mirena's hormones (progestin) are released locally in the uterus, i've found that they have artificial my skin. My advice is talk to you doctor and see if you might be placed on a low dose combination pill as capably so that your estrogen levels don't drop.

Hey I have my mirena fitted 4 years ago after my daughter was born...

I had extremely pouring periods before and highly painful cramp.

Since having the coil fitted, i hold had lighter periods and not as tender cramp but my periods last longer e.g two weeks instead of one, and can go off every 2-3 weeks.

Everyone is different though I would recommend it all around.

I have mirena and I still hold my periods. My friend however has it too and does not hold periods. There is only a indisputable percentage of women who stop having periods. I however hold endometriosis so that could be why I still do. I would say that it is not a bad method of birth control if you are similar to me and cannot remember to take a pill.
