I just found out that I am pregnant ( :-) )... I have GERD and enjoy been taking Nexium for many years, it's the individual medication that really helps me (sometimes my GERD is so bad, I run one nexium in the morrning and one in the evening). With pregnancy, I experienced lower abdominal dull pain,and got really worried, but then I be told that's its normal. I asked the doctors in the ER if nexium is out of danger to take during pregnancy, and both OBGYN doctors at the hospital said yes, since it is a part B drug it is SAFE to steal. Yesterday however, I had a visit near my OBGYN who is completely against nexium, prilosec or any other drug except for zantac. I tried taking zantac, but I do not feel any relief whatsoever. I consulted pharmacists and other doctors who clearly state that it is sheltered to take nexium during pregnancy. I am sure I am not the only pregnant woman near this problem, can someone please advise as to whether nexium is safe to whip during pregnancy and if you actually took it and your babies are healthy.

Answers:    The use of esomeprazole (Nexium) is contraindicated during lactation as at hand is a chance it will cross breast milk. However, the use of nexium during pregnancy is only as a precaution - use it single if you truly need it.

You should check with your OB/GYN or primary effort physician if nexium is safe for you to use or if they could really look into it and find something that will work better for you than zantac.

A category B drug means that it is unanimously safe to take during pregnancy as it poses minimum risk. (C - moderate risk, D - giant risk but depends on the benefit, X - high risk but definitely shouldn't be taken).

If your regular OBGYN is against those types of medication then he'd suggest you not to take them but two other OBGYNs told you so I construe it'd be ok to take.
