Hi, yes I'm male therefore not conversant of the pill really. However a friend has me kind of worried. She's a short time ago started seeing a man and has gone on the pill as sleeping together. She has never be on any contraception before, and she says the pill starts working from the moment you start to bring it, now I am not sure, so please ladies/gents/Drs out there, who's right previously it's too late! I'm afraid I don't know what brand of pill she's on either beforehand anyone asks! She's 26, and has just have an operation for endiometriosis (whether that effects anything I don't know but thought I'd throw it in anyway).

Most doctors would recommend that you be on the pill for at least one month before have unprotected sex just to be safe (esp if its your first time on the pill). You do inevitability to give the body time to adjust to the hormones. That's like taking a diet pill and expecting to lose 5 pounds by the subsequent day. It's not magic. How does a 26 year ripened not know this? The doctor does tell you this when the pill is prescribed to you.

no it's not effective the minute you thieve it she has to take it for 1-2 weeks later it will be fully effective. You can't just start on it and own unprotected sex that day.
