Answers:    they are different brands but they are esentially the same thing.
Yasmin has a generic now.

Yasmin has 21 active pills and 7 inactive pills
Yaz has 24 active pills and 4 inactive pills (I think this allows a greater chance of a shorter period)..

Yasmin has a higher dose of estrogen than Yaz does, so no, there not the exact same. I've only taken Yaz, which I liked but switched because it was too expensive. I've never taken Yasmin, so I'm not really sure if they have differing side effects, I guess it depends on whether you think you're body would react better to a lower or higher dose pill.
