My mom is 44 years old and she was within pretty good health until lately. She has fibroids and they are large. She didn't know she have them until she went to the doctor. I can touch her stomach and actually surface them. She was always tired and she bled heavily when she have her cycle. She finally went to the doctor a few weeks ago, and she lost so much blood that she was at risk for a heart attack and/or stroke, and she be kept for a day in decree to receive some blood. Her doctor told her that she should get a hysterectomy, and I think my mom is going to shift through with it, but I'm very afraid and I don't want her to enjoy it. She told me she won't be having any more children, and her fibroids may come back, so she requests to have the hysterectomy to keep the fibroids from returning. I know I can't explain to her what to do with her body, but I'm really afraid for her to have surgery. What are some alternatives to a hysterectomy? Your answers are greatly appreciated =)

I know you are worried for your mom but please trust the dr that he/she know what is best. Your mom is worse off keeping her uterus. Many women, including my aunts, have have hysterectomies and said that if they could have done it years before, they would hold. They felt sooo much better afterward. They do need to appropriate hormone replacements but its a small price to pay for the discomfort they were surrounded by before. Please be supportive to your mom. Almost orgasmic - but too intense?

A hysterectomy isn't as huge a deal as it used to be. They can do it laprascopically with a tiny incision. If she's going to bleed to demise from her fibroids, she'd be better off with the hyster., don't you surmise?
i think if there be alternatives, they would have discussed them with her. One possibility is an ablation, which burns stale everything inside the uterus, but because the fibroids are so big that may not be possible.

Personally I'm not completely sure, but I think a hysterectomy is best because that is what the doctor suggested. and evidently the doctor knows better than any of us does...all you can do is breed it easy for your mother and pray~!
